Step Out Walk benefits diabetes research, education, management, and prevention, supporting the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
"We are delighted to bring our signature Step Out Walk event back to Baltimore! There is a world-class medical community here, along with corporate and community leaders dedicated to advancing our mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. There are approximately 595,000 adults in Maryland who have diagnosed diabetes and approximately 33% of adults are living with obesity. We have been hosting events including State of Diabetes, our Camp Charm City, and Project Power here in Baltimore for the past few years to address the crisis. Now we can add Step Out to the list of activities to create connection and build community”, said Darryl Heggans, the ADA’s executive director in the DMV region.
This year’s event will include:
- A kids’ zone with fun activities
- A wellness village
- Diabetes resources and expert advice on management and prevention
- A fun family-friendly one-mile walk loop
Diabetes isn't just a disease—it's an epidemic—with over 40 million Americans living with diabetes and its devastating consequences. Events like Step Out play a vital role in increasing awareness, connecting communities, contributing to diabetes prevention and management, and supporting the ADA’s vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens.
This year’s Step Out Walk is sponsored by University of Maryland Medical System.
