The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) has awarded Senator Scott Wiener with the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people living with diabetes.
Senator Wiener has been and continues to be a true champion for advancing access and leading common-sense health policy solutions directly benefiting individuals and families impacted by diabetes across California.
“Senator Wiener has consistently demonstrated what it means to lead with purpose and compassion,” said Christine Fallabel, the ADA’s interim vice president of state government affairs. “His leadership has helped remove barriers to care, lower costs, and ensure more people have access to the lifesaving medications and resources they need to manage their diabetes. We are proud to recognize his contributions to advance policies supporting the diabetes community.”
Among his most notable achievements is the passage of California Senate Bill 40, landmark legislation which capped insulin cost-sharing at $35 per month for Californians with state-regulated health plans. This critical policy provided much needed financial relief for thousands of individuals living with diabetes.
Throughout his tenure, Senator Wiener has remained a staunch advocate for policies that prioritize patient-centered care, affordability, and improved access to health services. His work reflects a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the diabetes community and a commitment to creating sustainable solutions.
The ADA’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals whose dedication and leadership have made a lasting difference in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
